Affiliate Marketing On The Internet And Why You Should Use It

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing on the internet is as common as hyperlinks. And chances are if there’s a hyperlink, then there’s an affiliate attached to it.

Companies large and small use affiliate links today.

When I first got started I didn’t know anything about affiliate marketing on the internet. I just thought I must be buying great products because everyone and their dog was telling me how great these products were and to click their link and buy them.

If you’re not familiar with affiliate marketing on the internet just check out Wikipedia

Affiliate Marketing On The Internet For Newbies

This post is for the newbie internet marketer. I’ll give a quick understanding of what affiliate marketing on the internet is all about, and how to ethically use affiliate marketing on the internet as your main or alternate stream of income.

Any business with a single stream of income is a business playing Russian roulette. It’s only a matter of time and … BANG you’re gone!

Affiliate marketing on the internet can be very lucrative, and when done right it’s also very effective in helping people find the products they are looking for.

Unfortunately, Affiliate marketing on the internet has also gotten a bad rap because of so many scumbags on the internet willing to do anything for a quick buck.

I’m assuming you’re not one of them and want to legitimately use affiliate marketing on the internet as a legitimate business, IE: making money while helping people find good products.

I believe in Karma, what goes around comes around.

Affiliate Marketing On The Internet – The Basics

Affiliate marketing on the internet is simply the referring of someone, or someone’s products or services to others on the internet. And in return, if that person buys the service or product you’re referring, then you get paid a referral fee.

The referring is done by hyperlinks that take you to the product page or sales page. The hyperlink just before this sentence takes you to wikipedia, but I get no fee for sending you there, so it is not an affiliate link.

Affiliate Marketing On The Internet – Link Types

There are basically two types of affiliate links. First are the text type link that looks like an ordinary hyperlink. Here’s one for my favorite theme company that can be placed unobtrusively into any line of text.

I could simply start writing about the importance of having Conversion Focused WordPress Themes if you’re doing business on the internet.

And if you were a reader with an interested in using the best themes for converting visitors to customers, then you would likely click the link to see what it was all about.

The second type of referral link is inserted into a graphic like this one of my all-time favorite plugin. It’s hard to hide what it is, and because of that there will be a pros and cons to its use.

You’re not about to click on this type of link without being fully aware of what it’s about, so there is little curiosity pull behind it.

But on the other hand, the people you do get clicking on it are more likely to be looking for exactly what you are offering. It’s a magnet for anyone like me who struggles with building a homepage, landing page or ordinary blog.

That’s why I bought it and recommend it so highly. It works!

Affiliate Marketing On The Internet – The Truth

The last piece I’ll talk about dealing with affiliate marketing on the internet is telling the truth.

Some marketers don’t care about this as much as other. You can be hidden on the internet. Or at the very least be far enough away from the buy that they can’t reach out and punch you in the nose, or worse.

For me the Golden Rule always applies. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I will not be an affiliate to JUNK no matter how much they offer to pay me. And if I haven’t used the item I’m an affiliate for I will say so.

I would hope that you walk this path as well. As a matter of fact, I would highly recommend it, especially if you plan on being in business for any length of time.

Some people think they can take advantage of others and not reap the consequences, but I know better. For many people, not all but many, that stuff lives in their subconscious and eats away at them like cancer.

Affiliate Marketing On The Internet – Easy?

Affiliate marketing on the internet is not easy, but it’s not rocket science either.  You still have to pay attention to what you’re doing and follow good advice. You don’t want to spend a lot of money and end up broke and lonely feeling like a failure.
